ACTion Nonprofit Spotlight: Fund for Alexandria's Child
What is Fund for Alexandria's Child?
The Fund for Alexandria's Child was established to help the most vulnerable foster children and children in our community. Through social workers at the Department of Community & Human Services, the Fund is able to identify children in need and reach out to those who are most at-risk. It helps with the collection and distribution of children's items and offers expertise to fulfill its charge: helping Alexandria's foster children and those at risk of experiencing abuse and neglect.
Fund for Alexandria's Child Mission
The Fund for Alexandria's Child works to enhance the quality of life of foster children and children at risk of abuse and neglect by promoting community awareness, involvement and resource development. We achieve our mission through providing to the children such activities as dance, art or karate lessons, summer camping, school field trips, scouting and team sports. Because of the generosity of our Alexandria neighbors, we can proudly say that we are a community "taking care of our own."
Program Highlights
For the past seven years, the Fund for Alexandria's Child has been the recipient of all proceeds from the Annual Foster the Future Cruise. This is a huge event for the organization always brings citizens together to raise money for our foster children. The event generally begins with a dockside reception followed by an evening cruise of the Potomac. Thus far, the Cruise has raised over $40,000 for the Fund for Alexandria's Child.
