The Miracle League has started work on their very first baseball field that is accessible to wheelchairs. The league is made up of children and adults from the Alexandria Therapeutic Recreation Department. The field, made of synthetic turf, is being created especially for participants with special need. With the new field it will be easy to manuever wheelchairs as well.
With help from the City of Alexandria, the Kelley Cares Foundation and the Washington Nationals, the Miracle League will be raising all the money for the new field.
As the season progresses, the participants will continue to play on a traditional field, until the turf is finished, even though there is some difficulty moving a wheelchair through the dirt.
The Miracle League is looking for donations from local businesses and individuals. Donations can be made on the Miracle League of Alexandria's website.
This is a great opportunity for children with special needs to get out and play sports and they have something to call their own.
