Green Roofs @ Potomac Yard

Green roofs is an idea whose time has come.  Alexandria can be a model for this significant growing movement (see http://www.greenroofs.org/).  We have lots of real estate on the roofs of the big box stores at Potomac Yard; there is space for many different kinds of roof gardens.  Here are some possibilities: organic vegetable and flower gardens, habitat gardens for bees birds and butterflies, and outdoor classroom/laboratory for Alexandria schoolchildren.  By establishing roof gardens, we also reduce energy usage by decreasing heating and cooling costs of the buildings over time.  It's win-win-win!
