Questions?
Who is eligible to receive gifts through this program?
All participants eligible for supportive services from Alexandria’s Department of Community and Human Services. Further, we work closely with nonprofits and agencies to ensure that participants are not receiving help from more than one group. This ensures that we can help the greatest number of individuals.
The wish lists are long, contain items that I can’t afford or don’t want to buy. What do I do?
The wish lists provide guidance for you as a donor. We know that it can be difficult shopping and purchasing personal items for someone you don’t know, which is why we provide the lists. Ifyou have concerns or questions, please feel free to contact us for clarification. The Wish Lists are limited to CHILDREN ONLY to include necessary clothing, one toy or recreational item depending on age, and a book. A grocery gift card, and ONE large additional gift are included for the family. The items listed are truly needed. You may purchase as many or as few of the items as you decide.
Do I have to sponsor someone entirely by myself?
Some of our donors join with friends and/or colleagues to sponsor a family. However, there are other ways to help in lieu of sponsoring an individual. You can make a donation, such as gift cards (denomination of $25 and $50), coats(need all sizes—see our website), and money. We welcome donors of all income levels. If you have something that you want to donate, feel free to contact us at [email protected]

On Tuesday September 4th, the transformation of one of Community Lodgings’ five apartment buildings will begin – a full-fledged renovation! When I took over as Executive Director seven years ago, I set a long-term goal to ensure all our families lived in safe, comfortable homes. Over the years, out of sheer financial necessity, I was forced to take a “band-aid” approach to building repairs. Seven years later, with help from HomeAid Northern Virginia, Pulte Homes and the City of Alexandria, our long-term goal becomes reality.
A few weeks ago, a small group of "civic hackers" met in a conference room at ForumOne Communications in Alexandria to discuss what kind of applications they should build as a part of the Northern Virginia Brigade of Code for America.
